Cyrano Gets New Hard Drive Installed, Swears it Works Better then Viagra...

Sorry for the long lapse of new content. Me and computers rarely see eye to eye. And thus, with puzzled expressions on our faces and our hats in our hands, we extend thanks to the Mechanics of Molotov, GABIE and JENS, for getting us idling smoothly and hitting on all cylinders!!

The Free Design--Free!
Coming soon will be a fantastic interview with Chris Dedrick, eldest brother and leader of the 60's "soft psych" group, The Free Design. Chris talked to Cyrano a while back and proved to be the sincere, talented and all around swell-guy we knew he would be. This special interview will be edited with highlights of the recorded output of the family Dedrick. If you know their deceptively deep, yet innocently optimistic approach, you will be delighted. If you aren't familiar with them, it's the perfect opportunity to be introduced to a family of musicians that marched to their own groovy beat. Thanks to Matt Sullivan at Light In The Attic Records and KXLU's own Maki for making this happen.

The Great Green Room In The Sky
Jimmy Smith
Easily the Ambassador of the Hammond B-3 organ, jazz great Jimmy Smith went back to the chicken shack one last time. With his skill, artistry and huffin' and puffin', Jimmy breached alphabetical protocol by moving the rightful place of the word Hammond next to the word funky in the dictionary. He made some amazing records and was a stone cold gas as a live entertainer. Your music library is seriously understaffed without any of his stellar--and fun--head bobbers. We recommend: The Sermon, Back At The Chicken Shack, Stay Loose!, and Root Down for easily obtainable truths.

Martin Denny
At an astonishing 93 years young, MD took the final outrigger to the Big Lagoon just weeks ago. Largely responsible for the proliferation of music deemed "Exotica," he brought dreams of far off places to the homes of tiki torch bearning, hawaiian shirt wearing ho-dads everywhere. Along with Arthur Lyman and Les Baxter, international music with a languid, Asian flavour set the inner adventurer of us all wandering to places of mystery, danger, and good old fashioned lust. We hope you caught this year's 3 hour marathon. Iif not, we promise to bear the torch next year at the return of spring. Read the excellent liner notes by Stuart Swezey and Brian King that accompany Rhino Records Martin Denny CD, "Exotica":
